We are excited to share that the Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association (AAHA), the USA Hockey Affiliate representing Delaware, New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania, is hosting the inaugural USA Hockey Warrior National Championship taking place on April 11-24, 2024 at the Ice Vault Arena in Wayne, New Jersey, and the Sled National Championship, taking place on April 18-21, 2024 at Ice Line in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Both venues will have music, food and activities contributing to the festive atmosphere for all that attend.
USA Hockey’s Warrior Hockey Discipline is dedicated to injured and disabled US Military Veterans who have served our country and play the sport of ice hockey. As one of the Disabled Hockey Section's newest disciplines, Warrior Hockey is quickly growing nationwide. While some of the participants played hockey prior to being injured, many try it for the first time for therapeutic reasons. To be eligible to compete in the Warrior Hockey Discipline, participants must be or have been Veterans and Members of the Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard), with former Members required to have been discharged under honorable or general conditions. USA Hockey thanks the men and women of the armed forces for their service.
USA Hockey’s Sled Hockey Discipline follows most of the typical ice hockey rules except for some of the equipment. Players sit in specially designed sleds that sit on top of two hockey skate blades. There are two sticks for each player, instead of one, with metal picks on the butt end for players to propel themselves. Sled Hockey provides opportunities for many types of disabilities for both veterans and non-veterans, and there are opportunities available in local areas for recreation/competition all the way to the National Sled Team that plays in the Paralympics.
We aim to make these National Championships a memorable experience for the players, coaches and fans but we need your help and support!
Please help us meet our goal of $50,000 for each event to be used to support the Disabled Hockey disciplines in the AAHA. These disciplines include Sled hockey, Warrior hockey, Standing Amputee hockey, Special hockey, Blind hockey and Deaf/Hearing Impaired hockey programs.
